Lobelia (Lobelia  spp.) of Northwest indiana

Lobelia plants are great additions to a garden.  Great blue lobelia and cardinal flower lobelia both can add brilliant colors and textures to your garden.  Great blue lobelia draws bumblebees and cardinal flower draws hummingbirds.  These two both need moist soils for ideal survival.  Cutting back the lobelia after blooming or seeding will help the plant stay a little stouter.  Some lobelia species, such as brook lobelia, need specific environmental habitats that may not be suitable for home landscape use.
